In the SaaS wonderland, it never is pleasant to search for a good tool by one’s own means.
We know as much as you do that rushing towards Google or ChatGPT (or whichever AI model you like using) to find out which tool you should subscribe to is a very, very tempting perspective.
But how about forming your own opinion based on, let us see, functionalities? Instead of getting the trendy solution that pops up first in the results without backed up material to justify it.
To help you do that, we did it first. And because we’re super nice, we have decided to share our findings with you through this article.
To make your reading digestible, we have chosen to focus on a handful of solutions. We skimmed the list and came up with a definitive suggestion of 4 tools.
Hold up right there! Don’t scroll down so fast to get to the answers without even reading introductory paragraphs.
All of this article's core information might be useless to you if you do not know how to properly apply it.
To do so, meaning to be able to pick the right IAM tool for your company, you need to know what you expect it to do for you.
I know that expressing precisely what you want and why sounds a little daunting or overkill for an app.
Since you will be paying for it, setting it up, getting teammates to use it, you will be grateful to pick right from the start.
Here is a list of questions to help figure out your needs:
1) What are your current problems?
2) What are your current constraints when it comes to resources (human, financial or technical) allocated to the new tool?
3) What are the goals to achieve by using an IAM tool?
Once you are done typing the wish list for your new SaaS, you will be able to make an enlightened decision.
One last bit of advice: to arbitrate more easily, classify your wished features in two categories: must-have and nice-to-have.
If you are familiar with cybersecurity, Okta is a name that should ring a bell. Auth0 is presented, on its website, as a modern take on a tool built for security and simplicity. It is aimed at everyone and all types of structures.
Implementing embedded widgets and safe but handy authentication features (such as OTP and SSO), it is a good mix to get started on your identity and access management journey.
Okay so, to be fair, this is a tool designed by developers for developers. You do need to be able to navigate and use APIs to get going with Auth0, so that is a factor to consider. If you have the resources to do so, it can be great, otherwise, keep scrolling.
There is a free plan, which is mainly limited in regards to the number of organisations you can use: 5. You will not have access to some big features, such as MFA or role access control. Over this, you will need to pay $35 a month, which is an affordable fixed-price rate.
Both good and bad aspects exist in a fairly balanced layout with the Auth0 offer plan. I believe it to be best fitted to teams who want some security features but a great deal of autonomy on builds and app integrations.
This next solution is a bit opposed to the approach of the previous one. Youzer aims to package the whole IAM topic for your company in a way that comprises setting up whatever needs setting up on your technical end, and targets bigger corporate profiles.
The focus of Youzer is to provide a complete solution to companies, which will avoid resorting to several tools to complement management of IT assets.
That is straightforward enough, there are the main features you expect to find in any good IAM tool.
The well-known SaaS are present, alongside more specific software, which means high chances of finding your current tools easily.
Starting from a hefty and monthly €750 price tag for the small team of 20 people puts a brake on corporate profiles targeted.
The complimentary menu of options is also quite expensive, each option costing approximately €500 to be added…
Unless you have incredible IT budget power and are in need of their fully-packaged service, I do not believe Youzer is the best tool for you.
UserLock is an on-premise solution, made to come in addition, not substitution, of your Active Directory. It enables secured login processes, such as MFA or SSO, to safeguard access to your systems.
Let’s be honest, it is not a standalone tool to be used. Now that this is out of the way, we can focus on its value: quick strengthening of your existing system organisations.
Not sure how safe login to your software is? Bam! UserLock locks your authentication into place with eased-out MFA.
UserLock relies on your Active Directory to function. It is an authentication overlay designed to enhance security.
Prices start at €2 per user, monthly for a team of 20 active users. Prices decrease gradually for bigger teams.
It is convenient, if you decide to provide your AD with a little added security. We would recommend a more full on solution, particularly if you are committed to long-lasting efforts to reinforce the security of your assets.
MIA app is a small and medium sized enterprise IAM tool. It was designed for smaller structures which did not have access to extensive IAM features to protect their systems. It has a simple, practical interface and notification system to ensure protection is a seamless, and continuous process.
In MIA app, you can do all three things: manage and review user profiles, active SaaS and licences you are being billed for. Alongside provisioning, you can customise review access notifications however often you like to, and get rolling.
At the time this article is being written (or rather, typed), MIA offers more than 40 different SaaS to be integrated.
The development team is adamant to provide as many SaaS as compatible and useful to the users, because that’s the spirit behind MIA: being useful daily. If you are considering choosing MIA, by all means reach out to us if you need a specific SaaS and we’ll do our very best to implement it.
MIA is free under 20 active users. Once you reach that number, you pay €2 per user, on a monthly basis.
If you have a small or medium-size company, MIA is more than a good compromise.
It is fitted to your organisation. It will provide you with enough features to manage your business apps, your user accesses and watch over the costs of your licenses in one place.
Whatever solution you choose to invest in, make sure it is the one that makes your daily operations simpler, and gives you time to focus on building your company's value.
